Glenn Torrance 1/3 Scale Fokker D.VII Fuselage ConstructionA number of Glenn Torrance Fokker D.VII's have been built now and all have typically weighed in over 20Kg. I decided it would be a good idea to register the build with the LMA.; That was done some time ago so I contact my inspector before starting to review and refresh the discussions that had taken place some 18 months previous. That done it was full steam ahead . . . . |

Glenn Torrance supplies a kit to produce a dummy Mercedese D.III engine that sits on top of the actual engine. In an ideal world I would use the kit as supplied, however I am lacking room to fit the assembly to do it any justice, so an alternative plan was needed. With the gear reduction system almost pushing the carburettor within 10 cm of the engine top rockers the front 4 cylinders would literally be like small pan lids sitting on top of the engine. So began the natural progression to using 3D printing again to help me out!
Using the GTM kit for guidance I began to draw the engine in 3D incorporating as many parts from the GTM kit to save on additional purchases. Much of this construction took place well into the build so parts of the airframe will be a little more complete to how the fuselage was at the end of the above story line.
